Busy little Bee

Monday, August 1, 2011

From the lovely Obeedesigns

It is good to be busy, but my poor blog gets very neglected and I seem to have very little time to read my favourite bloggers news:(
A Wedding to plan, house to renovate designs to create... and
I am happy though to announce that I  have signed a new licensing contract with a wonderful publisher in Germany, Korsch Verlag GmbH & Co.KG.
I will have note books, journals and a calendar produced with all my favourite designs!
I am also working on a book of verse for them, it is all very exciting.

A French Valentine "Marie Antoinette une belle rose"

Tuesday, January 11, 2011
Inspired by the beautiful tradition of Victorian Valentine's greetings I have designed
"Marie Antoinette une belle rose"
Marie Antoinette a beautiful rose dressed in her gorgeous gown waiting to
be swept off her dainty feet at the Valentines day ball.
As a special treat for customers who purchase any Valentines day cards from Mulberry Muse
and quote "Victorian Valentine" at the checkout I will include some special extras in the parcel.

Tea and Biscuits

Friday, June 4, 2010
A cold wintry wet and rainy Sydney morning.

The washing is piling up, trying to get it dry is rather difficult after endless days of rain.

I do love the rain though, nice to be cosy indoors with a cup of tea and a biscuit by the fire....

Lace Chemise and Petticoat Tales

Tuesday, March 9, 2010
"A chemise, shift, or smock was usually sewn at home, by the women of a household. It was assembled from rectangles and triangles cut from one piece of cloth so as to leave no waste. The poor would wear skimpy chemises pieced from a narrow piece of rough cloth; the rich might have voluminous chemises pieced from thin, smooth fine linen."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chemise

Today the term chemise often refers to women's fashions that vaguely resemble a shift, or under garment, but are usually more delicate and provocative.

Bunny Rabbits

Wednesday, February 3, 2010
Thinking about Bunnies,  so cute and cuddly.

I could never eat Rabbit stew when a child in England.

My Grandad kept Rabbits but they were for food, apparently a good source of nutrition during the war years.

I have a lovely collection of the still very popular Bunnykins china

I adore Beatrix Potter's gorgeous work and have the whole collection of her wonderful Children's stories.

Beatrix Potter began her career at the age of 24 after having some of her rabbit drawings accepted by the publishers of greeting cards, Hildesheimer and Faulkner.

I too began my career as an illustrator and designer of greeting cards at around the same age.

I still work freelance for the same Sydney company over 20 years later!

"Let them eat Cake"

Wednesday, January 13, 2010
I have been very busy redrawing some lovely old vintage images of ladies for valentines day.

I find the vintage images often have very crabby looking ladies with double chins and a 5 o'clock shadow !  I re draw them with pretty new faces and peaches and cream complexions. This can take hours of work but the result is worth it, I hope you agree!
